چکیده

Short-time spectral attenuation is a common form of audio signal enhancement in which a time-varying filter, or suppression rule, is applied to the frequency-domain transform of a corrupted signal. The Ephraim and Malah suppression rule for speech enhancement is both optimal in the minimum mean-square error sense and wellknown for its associated colourless residual noise; however, it requires the computation of exponential and Bessel functions. In this paper we show that, under the same modelling assumptions, alternative Bayesian approaches lead to suppression rules exhibiting almost identical behaviour. We derive three such rules and show that they are efficient to implement and yield a more intuitive interpretation.

Efficient Alternatives to the Ephraim and Malah Suppression Rule for Audio Signal Enhancement

Audio signal enhancement often involves the application of a time-varying filter, or suppression rule, to the frequency-domain transform of a corrupted signal. Here we address suppression rules derived under a Gaussian model and interpret them as spectral estimators in a Bayesian statistical framework. With regard to the optimal spectral amplitude estimator of Ephraim andMalah, we show that und...

A Novel Speech Enhancement System Based on Wavelet Denoising

This paper introduces a novel speech enhancement system based on a wavelet denoising framework. In this system, the noisy speech is first preprocessed using a generalized spectral subtraction method to initially lower the noise level with negligible speech distortion. A perceptual wavelet transform is then used to decompose the resulting speech signal into critical bands. Threshold estimation i...

A soft decision MMSE amplitude estimator as a noise preprocessor to speech coder s using a glottal sensor

A soft-decision Ephraim-Malah suppression rule based speech enhancement algorithm is proposed for intelligibility enhancement in parametric speech coders. A glottal sensor is used to improve the intelligibility of a baseline system that uses only the acoustic microphone. The objective measure test shows that the proposed system decreases the spectral distortion by 2-3 dB for most phonetic class...
